Born in 1595 in the city of Amritsar, Punjab-India . Guru Hargobind was the sixth of the Ten Gurus within the Sikh faith . He was a saint, sportsman and a soldier , known for combining spiritual and mundane powers.Guru Hargobind always carried two swords to symbolize the concepts of Miri and Piri. .Piri meaning spiritual authority and Miri meaning temporal authority, Sikhs are expected to maintain a balance between the two, to be soldiers and saints.
During his times, the discipline and regular training camps came into existence which filled the Sikhs with 'martial spirit',
Guru Hargobind enjoyed the sport of wrestling and would organize wrestling competitions to test the strengths of the Sikhs. Guru Hargobind, thus was the initiator of the Sikh Sports and Martial Arts.
The Hargobind wrestling club was named in honour of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
